2. The long-awaited Bandra-Worli sea link, seen as an engineering marvel, weighs equivalent to that of 50,000 African elephants.

5. India is home to the world's largest nuclear family. The family, all 167 of them, consumes around 200lb of rice and more than 130lb of potatoes a day. They are supported by their own resources and occasional donations from followers.

6. Largest Canoe Crew- 143 people on a 43.7 m long boat. Unusually the Snake Boat is constructed from steel, the common material is wood. The boat measures 0.71 m (2 ft 4 in) deep and weighs 8 tonnes. The boat took around 4 months to be built.

The ‘Snake Boat’ Aries Punnamada Urukku Chundan of Alleppey had a crew of 143, which included 118 rowers, 2 rhythm men, 5 helmsmen and 18 singers, and was rowed on May 1, 2008.

7. Varanasi, the land of 3 religions, is oldest inhabited city. Varanasi, a city with religious importance in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, is the world’s oldest, continuously inhabited city. The city has been continuously inhabited since Lord Buddha’s visit in 500 BC.

Mark Twain famously described Varanasi as “older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.

8. The little Greece in Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh. Malana is believed to be inhabited by the descendants of soldiers of Alexander the great. The local inhabitants proclaim themselves as descendants of the Greek king and speak a language which can only be understood by them.

This thing may sound nonsense but it’s the biggest fact about Malana village. The local inhabitants claim Village Malana to be the World’s oldest democracy with a well organized parliamentary system, guided by their Devta Jamlu rishi. it is believed that Malana still follows the Greek parliamentary system and hence regarded as the World’s oldest democracy.

9. The wettest inhabited place on Earth. The northeastern state of Meghalaya is the wettest inhabited place in the world. Mawsynram, a village in the Khasi Hills, receives an average annual rainfall of 467 inches.

Speaking of Meghalaya, the traditional bridges in this state are made entirely out of living trees.

10. There are a total of 1,208 islands in India.

Majuli - Assam It's known as the largest river island in the world. It's a breeding place for asssamese culture and is a tourist hotspot. It has an area of 1250 sq. km. It's also the first island district in the country
